Week 7
In this week's theme of Ancient History of Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos, I've learned about the backdoor deals and what it's like to have a hands of a country in the palm of your hands. These leaders who have great tremendous powers revolve their lives around politics and lose a sense of humanity. Running a country seems like imprinting in themselves into whatever they can, in order to expand who they are. China has occupied themselves in Vietnam for them to assimilate to Chinese social and political organization. As Chinese traditions were forced upon the Vietnamese, during these times it makes me wonder what drives a country to do these things? To force an independent country to be under your will (most of the times), thousands of innocent lives having to practice your language and customs. What drives leaders to these sorts of things? Nayan had mentioned that it wasn't the militarism or the religion that was driving them, it was the culture. This makes me wonder why is it that the deep rooted culture countries drive their political into? Why are countries not allowed to have separate cultures and run their own countries independent?
I always wondered what people looked like back then, and how they were able to survive in times of consistent wars that didn't just end on the battlefields.
