In this week's reading, Brother Enemy, Nayan Chanda, talks about the "second war" in Indochina and the conflicts between Vietnam and Cambodia and China that is rarely discussed. In particular, the fight for islands, discuss how an old conflict and historical struggle that had previously been frozen, has been brought up again. I thought it was interesting to read about this because at this point in the course, the point has been made that much of the Vietnamese's perspective has been erased in American history of the Vietnam War. But it was interesting to also learn that China and Cambodia had also been apart of the war, and after, and how they were also affected as well. Yet, I had never heard of China being mentioned, and Cambodia, while have been mentioned in terms such as the Khmer Rouge, rarely is talked about in detail. This conflict, especially between Vietnam and Cambodia, seems to be like a very significant detail, and that in itself, is yet another example of how an important part and perspective of history had been covered.
